PTCL launches mobile facilitation service for customers

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has launched mobile facilitation van service for its customers in the Federal Captal.    The van will go to door steps of customers, thus the new service will provide customers an opportunity to easily access products and services, a company spokesman sid here on Friday.

almost one mobile phone for every South Korean, statistics show

Tech-savvy South Korea now has 45 million mobile phones, equivalent to 91 percent of the total population, the Korea Communications Commission said Wednesday.
The data means each of the country’s 15.8 million households has almost three mobiles on average, it said.

PTCL revolutionizes communication with IPTV service

Pakistan Telecommunications Company Limited (PTCL) has revolutionized communication with the launch of its IPTV service in Pakistan, says PTCL senior executive vice president (SEVP) Dr. Sadiq Al Jadir on Wednesday.
“With this state-of-the-art service, customers will be able to enjoy broadband and avail easy education facilities,” said the SEVP PTCL while addressing a PTCL customer care road show held at a local hotel here.

ZONG announces an offer

ZONG, China Mobiles first international brand, has come up with an offer of a 50 paisa per 30 second call to any one international number.
An announcement to this effect was made in a statement issued here on Wednesday.
It said that ZONG’s 8-Anay users will now be `blessed to call at any one international number covering U.K, USA, Canada, China, Germany, Ireland and Spain at 50 paisa per 30 second only’.

Number of mobile users in Pakistan reaches 90 million

The number of the users of mobile phone in Pakistan has reached from 0.3 million to about 90 million during the last eight years. According to Geo news,  Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) reported, the ratio of mobile phone users all over the country has been increased from 0.22 per cent in 2000 to 54.70 per cent in June 2008.

Warid introduces location based services first time in Pakistan

Warid Telecom has launched Location Based Services (LBS) which is a unique and innovative mobile phone service in Pakistan. A statement here on Wednesday said that this enables Warid Postpaid and ZEM subscribers to locate the whereabouts of their family members, friends or colleagues through a Warid connection. (more…)

Telenor becomes second largest operator with 18 mln subscribers

Telenor Pakistan has become the second largest operator in Pakistan during the second quarter of the year according to its financial results for April-May-June 2008 period, retaining its position with more than 18 million subscribers.
Telenor Pakistan, one of Telenor Group’s 12 mobile operations worldwide, has contributed 23 percent of the Group’s net additions. The company, which is already the largest European Direct Investment in Pakistan with about US $2 billion already invested, continued spending heavily on network expansion and services during Q2, 2008.

No mobile SIM to be issued without Identity Card

The Government has decided that from now on no mobile SIM shall be issued without valid Identity Card and no SIM is to be handed over to any person but will be posted to the address given by the applicant.
Any violation of this procedure shall be punishable under the relevant laws. Necessary instructions have been issued to Chairman, PTA in this regard.

Traders ask PTA to unblock Chinese sets

A delegation of the All Pakistan Franchises Association (APFA) called on Chairman Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Islamabad Chapter, Munawar Mughal, here Friday.
The delegation was led by the President of Islamabad Mobile Association, Waseem Chaudhry and apprised FPCCI president about the obstacles faced by the cell phone traders.

Imposition of import duty on cell phones criticized

Mobile phone users and sellers have criticised the imposition of Rs 500 per set import duty on mobile phones  in the budget 2008-09.
The import duty would increase prices of the cell phones and affect the business of cell phone , said Sajjid Malik, a mobile phones  seller from Hall road here on Wednesday.

Samsung Unveils Touchscreen Smartphone

Not wanting Apple’s 3G iPhone to get all the hype, Samsung introduced Monday its own touchscreen smartphone. The company unveiled the Samsung i900 Omnia, a Windows Mobile smartphone. Its features should put it on par with HTC’s Touch Diamond, and perhaps with Apple’s latest smartphone.

Pakistan joins world’s lowest telecom tariff club By Mian Abrar

India can no longer claim of having being amongst the world’s lowest telecom tariffs”, as Pakistan boasts of far more competitive mobile services, especially for international (ISD) calls.

So while Indian telecom consumers have been celebrating the benefits of competition and low calling rates, they can now happily push operators and telecom regulators to lower their tariffs further.
