Electric meters burnt by fire in Defence Society

As many as eight electric meters and some cables were burnt when a fire broke out at a building near Abdullah Shah Ghazi Mazar on Tuesday night, in Toheed Commercial Area, Phase-5, Defence Housing Authority (DHA), sources of DHA fire department said.

There was no loss to human life. The cause of fire could not be ascertained.

Fire tenders rushed to the spot cited as Building No. 2-C, Street-29, Toheed Commercial Area, DHA and successfully extinguished the fire, the sources said.  Two other fire incidents occured here on Tuesday evening, Central Fire Brigade sources said.

A fire broke out Glue Department of Dollar Ink Industries, Nauroz Chowrangi, SITE area.   The fire was controlled by a single tender. No loss to human life nor any major material loss was reported, it said.

Goods at a shop selling fire fighting gear in Regal Square building, Regal Chowk, Saddar here were damaged when a fire broke out there on Tuesday evening.    The fire at Karsaz” firm located on top floor of the building was controlled with the help of a snorkel and six tenders.

No loss to human life occurred.    The extent of loss could not be estimated, neither the cause of fire could be ascertained, the sources said.

First mobile testing lab launched

Pakistan’s first Mobile Testing Laboratory has been launched by Pakistan Standards and Quality Control
Authority (PSQCA).     A statement here on Tuesday said that the Federal Secretary, Science and Technology, Sharif Ahmad, inaugurated the laboratory at PSQCA Head Office, Karachi. (more…)

Gulf Centre fire controlled

Fire fighters have controlled fire in the basement of a shopping plaza Gulf Center within half an hour, Fire Brigade sources said Friday.
An official of Fire Brigade Department said that fire tenders controlled the fire  which was erupted in the sub-station located in the basement of the shopping plaza.
He said that no one was injured.

The annual Electronic and IT Exhibition ends at AIT

Chancellor Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) Z.A. Nizami has said that very focus of Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association (AMUOBA) has remained on promotion of education in Pakistan and keeping the spirit of Aligarh Movement alive.
He was speaking as chief guest at the conclusion of annual Electronic and Information Technology Exhibition of Aligarh Institute of Technology (AIT).
He said there is no differentiation between Aligarh Institute of Technology and Sir Syed University as these institutions of technology have had their identity recognised both at home and abroad. (more…)

Karachiites sizzle as mercury clicks 42.8 degree

Karachiites on Saturday endured a very hot day as mercury touched 42.8 degree celsius, Met Office said.

The Met Office has forecast a hot and dry weather for  the next 24 hours. The temperature is expected to remain between 42-44 degrees on Sunday.

A Met official said the hot spell will continue next week.

Police arrests 15 involved in street crimes

CCPO Karachi Salahuddin Babar Khattak said Friday that Karachi Police Thursday arrested 15 accused involved in street crimes,police encounters and recovered arms, vehicles from their possession.
According to details one accused identified as Nadeem was arrested when he, along with his accomplice, attempted to loot one Zamir in Sector 7-A in the jurisdiction of Surjani Town Police Station, a TT pistol was recovered from him.
In Gulshan-e-Iqbal, three suspects were arrested from University Road by a police party on patrolling. The accused identified as Nadeem Akhtar, Abdullah Shaikh and Nadeem were arrested after exchange of firing.
Police recovered car No.AHU-855, one pistol and mobile telephones from them.
Again in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, another police party arrested two suspects on a motorcycle identified as Zeesan and Mohammed Shahbaz. Police recovered a TT and a pistol besides Motorcycle No.KDE-3224 from them.
In Bilal Colony,  Zone West, the police on patrol intercepted seven suspects behind Saima Complex. The accused, however, opened fire on police which returned the fire and ultimately arrested three of them identified as Waseem, Tahir and Asif along with recovery of 2 TT Pistols, two mobile telephones and Motorcyle No KDB-7238.
In B-1 area of North Nazimabad Police Station in Zone West, two accused snatched mobile phone from Agha Jalal Hussain on gun point. However, they were interpcepted by a police party during which an exchange of fire took place in which injured acccused Mohammed Zahid and Mohammed Rafiq were arrested. However, zahid died of injuries during treatment. Police said two TT pistols and two mobile phones were recovered.
In Ajmer Nagri Police station jurisdiction in Zone West, a mobile dealer Mohammed Arshad was going along with his wife when a woman signalled him to stop near Market. In the meanwhile two more persons appeared and looted 11 mobiles, wife’s jewellery and cash Rs 2000.

In the meantime, a police party also arrived and arrested accused Noorussaba alias Yasmin and Nadimuddin and recovered looted property from them along with a TT pistol. The search is on for absconding accused.
In Zone South, the SHO of Baghdadi Police Station arrested a member of Pappoo group after firing. He was identified as Abdul sattar alias Peera. A TT pistol and two hand grenades were recovered from him.

In Zone East, police arrested accused Mushtaq and Saud from the jurisdiction of Ibrahim Hyderi Police station and recovered a rickshaw No D-31351 and a TT pistol.

6 dead in Karachi accident

At least six people were killed when a car coming from Hyderabad collided with a dumper near toll plaza on Super Highway on Thursday night.
There were six people in the car ANM 028. The deceased earlier attended a wedding party in Hyderabad and were returning to Karachi, when they met with a fatal accident, Geo reported.
The deceased include Asif, Waseem Memon, khalid, Sajid,Jamshed and Waseem Khalid. According to Edhi sources, the deceased were aged between 30 to 35 years and all bodies were recovered from the car by cutting it and shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Construction of KPP suffers delay

Construction works of Korangi Power Plant (KPP) continues to remain halted during the last 8 months in view of non payment of dues to Seimens by Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC).
According to Geo News officials of KESC said that electricity production suffered delay because of discontinuation of Grid Station’s construction work.     The original schedule Korangi Power plant was to generate 85 MW electricity from April 2008 while the supply of as much power from the same plant from July 1 2008.
Siemens Pakistan was entrusted with the construction of Grid Station but due to non-payment of dues by KESC it has now approached the court.

Mustafa Kamal no more chief of KWSB and KBCA

Government of Sindh through a notification removed City Nazim, Mustafa Kamal from chairmanship of Karachi Water  and Sewerage Board (KW&SB) and Karachi Building Control Authority (KBCA).

According to Sindh Government notification, Provincial Minister for Local Government, Agha Siraj Durrani, will be the new chairman of KW&SB and KBCA, while board of directors of both the departments were also dissolved, Geo News reported.

Sindh government sources informed that this decision was taken after the investigation of recent hiring in both the departments namely KW&SB and KBCA.

Inquiry has also been launched into illegal hiring in community police.

PTCL-Connection New PTCL connection now just a phone call away
