Diploma of Associate Engineering result announced

The Sindh Board of Technical Education (SBTE) here on Thursday announced the result of Diploma of Associate Engineer (Evening) Third Year Annual Examination 2007.
According to statistics, 5,158 candidates appeared in the examination and of these 3,501 were declared successful with a pass percentage of 67.74.
The Controller of Examinations, Prof. Syed Sirajul Islam Bukhari announced that scrutiny of answer books/absent cases can be done of payment of prescribed fee on and on application within 40 days of issuance of marks sheets.

Karachi-Hyderabad Independence Day Cycle race

The 4th edition 144-KM of Independence Day Cycle Race from Karachi to Hyderabad Cycle race will be held on Sunday.
The race will flag off from the Sui Southern Gas head Office near Hasan Square on Sunday at 8.25 A.M. 50 riders representing WAPDA, Pakistan Army and Pakistan Railway and host SSGC would be featuring in the race. Wapda’s Malik Muhammad Bashir is defending his title in the race.

ITCN Asia to be held in Karachi from August 9

The 7th Information Technology Commerce Network (ITCN) Asia will commence here from August 9. This was stated by an official of Ecommerce Gateway Pakistan which is organizing the three-day event at the Karachi Expo Centre.
According to Adeeb Aijaz, General Manager Communication, the President of Azad Kashmir, Raja Zulqurnain Khan, will be the chief guest at the inaugural session of the event which is being
organized since 2001.
He said that this is for the first time that an Azad Kashmir pavilion has been set up at the ITCN Asia.
The opening day’s programme includes an International Telecom Conference.
The theme of this moot will be ” Growth prospects in telecom industry in Pakistan’.
The Pakistan Software Export Board’s CEO Forum will also be organized on August 9.
According to organizers, as many as 350 stalls would be set up at the ITCN Asia.
Representatives from the United States, Britain, Germany, China, Malaysia, Singapore, India and Taiwan would be among the participants from abroad.
The event, it has been stated, would serve as a comprehensive showcase of the latest technology, equipment and machinery as well as allied services.
It would also provide the investors with an outlook of the regional IT and Telecom industry and an opportunity to meet their perspective counterparts and business partners.
The organizers further pointed out that the ITCN Asia 2007 incorporates a variety of events.
The ITCN Asia 2007 is being organized by Ecommerce Gateway Pakistan with the collaboration of the Ministry of IT and Telecom.

ITCN Asia-2007 will be held at Karachi Expo Centre

ITCN Asia-2007 will be held at Karachi Expo Centre from August 9-11, showcasing fullest potential of Pakistan’s IT and telecom sectors.
International Telecom Conference 2007 is scheduled on the first day of the event, providing a platform to investors, decision makers, managers and other stakeholders share the ideas,
exchange views about the current & future trends in the field of Telecommunication and identify how the regional players can maximize from the developing opportunities.
According to Pakistan Software Export Board sources , the prominent speakers from the Industry would highlight the key issues and opportunities that are there to avail.
The ICIT 2007 conference will incorporate focused session on Telecommunication.
Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), a co-organizer of ITCN Asia-2007 will organize a ‘CEO Forum’ on August 10 on the sidelines of the event. The forum will be attended by international corporate leaders, investors and authors.
Titled’ Corporate Success in the Knowledge Economy’, the conference is expected to provide value to CEOs from IT, Telecom, Banks and the Energy sector.

Third tier of KPT Interchange Fly over opened

The third tier of KPT Interchange Flyover at Hino Chowk, Korangi Road opened here on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman KPT, Vice-Admiral Ahmad Hayat described it the fulfilment of yet another promise of KPT, being a major partner in the Tameer-e-Karachi Programme. He informed that the work on this grade separated intersection had commenced on 1st December 2004 at a cost of Rs 606 million.
The Admiral said the 3-tiered intersection will facilitate the smooth signal-free movement of ever growing traffic in the area
He said KPT will also provide decorative lighting, drainage facility, 67 feet monument, traffic signs besides carrying out landscaping and beautification works.
Highlighting the salient features of KPT Interchange, Chairman KPT referred to the improvement made in the oval shape flyover by connecting the two-way flyover structure from Jam Sadiq Bridge to Kalapul, which has two way traffic movement via two lanes on each direction.
These lanes have width of 19.2 meters, along with aesthetically Overpass design connecting Shaheed-e-Millat Expressway to Kalapul at one end and Korangi Town on the other with traffic movement in two lanes of 9.2 meters width respectively.
He said for the inter-section, the design speed for vehicular traffic is 50 km/hr. The total length of flyover and overpass structures including ramp is 605 meters and 1072 meters respectively,
he added.
Later, Vice Admiral Ahmad Hayat accompankd by senior KPT officials performed the ribbon cutting ceremony marking the formal opening of Interchange for traffic.

KU to hold international moot on social sciences

The University of Karachi will hold a two-day international conference on social sciences in the first week of September.
This was announced by the spokesman of the institution on Wednesday.
He said that the moot will highlight the inter-disciplinary nature of the social sciences.
Up to 30 foreign and local academicians and social scientists will present their papers at the conference scheduled to be held on September 4 to 5.
Being organized by Karachi University’s Faculty of Arts, the moot will focus on various themes and issues confronting social scientists in the changing and multi-dimensional disciplinary
environment.
Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Prof. Dr. Atta-ur-Rehman, has been invited to perform the inauguration.
According to the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, university of Karachi, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shamsuddin, said that the moot is expected to generate debate on contemporary issues in the social sciences and will contribute positively in the existing body of knowledge.

PSEB to hold intl’ CEO Forum in Karachi on August 10

The Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) will hold an international CEO Forum in Karachi on August 10 aiming at showcasing the rapid strides made by Pakistan in the Information Technology sector, PSEB Managing Director Yusuf Hussain said on Wednesday.
Addressing a news conference here, he said the CEO Forum would provide an opportunity to thought leaders of the knowledge economy captains of industry, financiers and authors to apprise themselves of what the significant progress Pakistani IT companies have achieved in recent years.
The PSEB MD said various high profile delegates representing international and national IT companies would participate in the Forum while other prominent IT personalities would also attend it.
About the rising image of Pakistan in the outer world, he said that A.T. Kearney, a Chicago-based research and strategic management consulting company, in its latest annual survey report for the first time has ranked Pakistan amongst the top 50 countries for its
offshore market potential.
“This speaks volumes for the target-oriented initiatives as well as the potential of outsourcing capabilities of local companies and also a strong manifestation of confidence the outer world has in the Pakistan IT industry,” he said.
Yusuf said the Board was launching the PSEB IT Job Board Portal for the Pakistani industry, adding, talent acquisition was the first step in the talent management.
In this connection, he said, the PSEB and Brightspyre have joined hands to help the IT industry by upgrading their talent acquisition to international standards besides providing help to the
foreign investors in acquiring talent pool from Pakistan.
About the potential of Pakistan in the IT sector, he said that Pakistan’s IT industry was growing at a high rate and added its advantage included relatively low wages amounting to as little as
half the level of salaries in India.
Yusuf said that over 1,000 companies were registered with the PSEB, out of which 100 were ISO certified and there were, at this point 90,000 IT professionals employed in Pakistan.
More or less 60 foreign IT and telecommunication companies were working in Pakistan that were also further exploring the local market in terms of more investment and outsourcing of IT-based
services, he said.
The PSEB MD urged the local investors to establish a venture capital fund for the local IT industry to promote an innovative and knowledge-based economy in the country.
He said the fund should be managed by professional managers and the government would play a role of an enabler and facilitator for the creation of innovation by the private sector.
Yusuf said nine engineering universities were being set up in the country that would help provide skilled manpower to the IT sector.
He said the PSEB has been facilitating the IT industry through its programmes in various fields including human capital, office space, marketing, telecom, strategy and research.

Karachi University announces availability of MBBS suppl. exam forms

Controller of Examinations - Karachi University, Prof. Maqsood ul Hasan, in a revised notification here Wednesday announced availability of forms for Final Professional MBBS Supplementary Examination - 2007.
Eligible candidates of medical colleges affiliated with Karachi University were advised to submit these forms along with Examination/ Marks Certificate Fee of Rs 2,150/- and Sports Fee of Rs 50/- (A total amount of Rs 2,200/-) from July 25 to August 15.
According to KU notification the concerned medical colleges would receive examination forms and fee from the eligible candidates.
The respective colleges were advised to forward Examination Forms, subject to the eligibility of candidates with a list in triplicate along with a photo-copy of all previous marks-certificates, last admit card, CNIC, enrolment card and three recent passport size photographs to the Examinations’ Controller of Karachi University by August 13.
It was also advised that the pay order of the Examination Fee must be of the next date with respect to the last date of receiving the forms and that the pay order of Examination fee may be drawn in the name of Karachi University.
A separate pay order for sports fee in favour of Director, Physical Education, Karachi University was also an important requirement.
The Controller said the programme and dates of examinations will be announced later.

KU announces result of diploma in diagnostic lab science

The University of Karachi on Tuesday announced the result of Diploma in Diagnostic Laboratory Science (DDLS) Part II Annual Examinations 2007.
In all, five candidates appeared in the examination and were declared successful with a pass percentage of 100.
A Karachi University statement said that marks certificates are being issued.

MA exam to commence as per schedule

Controller of Examination, University of Karachi has clarified that the annual examinations of M. A. (Previous and Final) for both regular and external will commence as per schedule from June 30.
According to an announcement here Friday, the first paper of M.A Previous examination 2006 will be held on June 30 at 2 p.m.
The shuttle bus service of the university will be available from Silver Jubilee Gate to all examination centres from 1 p.m.

Karachi to have another Child Health Institute

Sindh Government has allocated a sum of Rs 700 million to develop Children Hospital - New Karachi on the pattern of National Institute of Child Health (NICH).
Sindh Health Minister, Syed Sardar Ahmed during his visit to the Children Hospital - New Karachi here on Friday said the facility will be upgraded and reactivated as an autonomous institute.
“Funding earmarked for the children hospital during current fiscal year will help approval of different Schedule for New Expenditures (SNEs) that could not be materialised previously,” he
said.
Syed Sardar Ahmed mentioned that the provincial government, Karachi City District Government and private sector were making coordinated efforts for upgradation of the facility.
Doctors and nurses for the hospital will be hired on contract basis and applications by professionals interested in the jobs must reach the Sindh Health Department by July 15, enabling them to appear in written tests and interviews to be simultaneously held in
Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur on July 30.
“Professionals to apply for the jobs will not only be required to qualify required assessments but will also have to fill a bond committing themselves to serve the facility for a minimum three years period,” the Sindh Health Minister said.
He clarified that aspirants for the jobs can belong to any part of the province and merit will be the sole criterion.
With reference to the doctors and other health care professionals already serving at the hospital the Minister said in accordance with government rules they too will have to submit fresh applications but may not be required to appear for written test.

KU announces B.A (Part II) exam results

University of Karachi (KU) on Thursday announced the results for B.A. (Part-II and supplementary part-I), regular annual examination 2006.
According to the results, Kiran Riaz Kandawala of DHA College secured first class first position while Tooba Gulfam of Govt St. Joseph College for Women stood second and Saadia Mahmood of Mader-e-Millat Degree College, Steel Town clinched third position.
The percentage of passing candidates was 59.35 as 4,771, out of total appearing 8,039 candidates were declared successful, while 3207 failed.
Among the passing candidates, 853 secured first class while 3,412 passed in second class and 506 in third class.
The total registered candidates were 8,277.

BDS Supplementary Exams will be held according to the schedule

The first Professional BDS Supplementary Examination-2007 will be held according to the schedule, announced Controller Examination University of Karachi in a statement here on Sunday.
As par scheduled, the paper of Anatomy will be held on July 02; Physiology (July 04); Chemistry of Dental Materials (July 06); Biochemistry (July 09) and; Islamiat/ Pak Studies (July 11).
The examination time will be from 12:00 noon to 04:00 PM except for Friday on which the timing will be 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM.

KU’s notification

University of Karachi Sunday notified that all papers of L.L.B Final (New and old course) and B.Sc (Home Economics), scheduled to be held on 25th and 26th June, have been postponed.
Now these papers will be held on 1st July (Sunday) and 8th July (Sunday) 2007 respectively at the same centre and time i.e.2:00 to 5:00 p.m.
