Meezan Bank launches SMS Alert Service

Meezan Bank, Pakistan’s largest Islamic Bank has launched SMS Alert Service for all its customers nationwide.     An announcement here on Thursday said that with SMS Alert service customers of the Bank will be informed of multiple account transaction(s) on their mobile phones within minutes. SSUET’s orientation ceremony held

Some 1200 male and female students admitted to different dsiciplines of engineering in Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology were provided the vision and academic guidance at an “orientation ceremony” held here Monday prior to start of regular classes right from today.
Addressing the ceremony, Chancellor SSUET and President Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association, Engr Z.A. Nizami gave a broad outline of the vision behind the establishment of this University. (more…)

DUHS holds orientation session for students enrolled with its programmes

Dow University of Health Sciences here on Monday arranged a series of introductory classes for degree programme in physical medicine, dental care and diploma as well as degree programmes in nursing and medical technology respectively. Students with different backgrounds and academic qualifications attended these classes in large number and appreciated the exercise under-taken for their orientation about the professional education they intend to pursue.
Concerned directors of the programme include Dr. Nabila Soomro (Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation), Dr. Sharaf Ali Shah (Institute of Nursing), Dr. Sarwat Hasan (Institute of Medical Technology) and Dr. Mohammad Amin (Dental Care School).
Dr. Nabila Soomro said the current academic session 2008 is witnessed to have the Institute’s first training programme in Prosthesis and Orthosis Sciences and second of its degree level programme in Occupational Therapy. (more…)

Admissions to BCS commence

The process of admissions to three-year BCS degree programme has commenced in six government colleges in the metropolis.
An announcement to this effect was made in a statement issued on Friday.
The institutions are: Government D.J. Science College, Government Commerce College, Government College Stadium Road, Government National College, Sir Syed Government College for Women and Government Khursheed Girls College.
Those desirous of seeking admission can secure the forms from these colleges.
The filled in admission forms would have to be submitted in the respective institutions by January 14, it was further pointed out.

New academic session at Karachi University commences on Jan 10

The classes of the new entrants at Karachi University for the academic session 2008 will commence from January 10.
This was announced by the spokesman of Karachi University on Wednesday.
He said more than 4,000 students were admitted to various teaching departments of the institution. Meanwhile, the Vice-chancellor of Karachi University, Prof. Dr.
Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, has welcomed the new entrants. In a message on the occasion of the new academic year 2008, he reminded that they are now affiliated to a large institution of the country where their prime objective should be to acquire knowledge and education so as to get adequate acquaintance with science and

Wimax, wireless broadband launched in Pakistan

WiMax networks and Wireless Broadband services have been commercially launched across the country heralding a new milestone in the Telecom sector of Pakistan.
The launch of commercial WiMax services has positioned Pakistan as the leader in the region to initiate wireless Broadband services that would be available to its consumers nation wide.
Other regional countries including India are yet to offer such services analysts believe that these countries may take a considerable time to reach the position that Pakistan has attained.
WiMax is the latest, ITU recognized, 3G technology capable of providing voice, broadband data and commercial video telephony services.
With the launch of WiMax services in Pakistan, the subscribers to this service will be able to make video calls, telephony through special handsets while callers will be able to see live video/picture of each other in addition to voice conversation.
The users will also enjoy wireless broadband services and will be able to use Internet at much faster speed as compared to normal dialup internet services or fixed line broadband services. These operators are also aiming at providing broadband data solution for corporate users in Pakistan.
At present M/s Wateen Telecom, an international telecom player is offering commercial WiMax services in most parts of the country. Mytel, a local operator in Peshawar, has also launched its commercial operation of WiMax in Peshawar.
On the same front, other Wireless Local Loop operators including Burraq, PTCL, Z-WLL and Cyber Internet are busy in the deployment of WiMax networks. All of these operators are in their testing phase and will soon be able to offer commercial WiMax services in the country.

KU to publish post graduates directory

The University of Karachi has initiated the process to publish a department-wise post graduate
directory of the alumni of the institution.
A spokesman said on Sunday that the exercise is aimed at enhancing the liaison among the employers, industries and the professionals.
He stated that the task of compiling the directory has been entrusted to the Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) of the University of Karachi.
To seek the data of the alumni for the proposed post graduate directory, the University has also placed advertisement in a section of the press.
All the former students of the institution have been asked to fill in the form and post or email it to the QEC, University of Karachi.

NIDA to become operational in Karachi by end-October

National Institute of Design and Analysis (NIDA) set up by Technology Upgradation and Skill Development Company (TUSDEC) will become operational in Karachi by the end of October.
This is the fourth NIDA becoming operational after the ones set up in Lahore, Quetta and Sialkot.
According to a spokesman of TUSDEC here on Monday, NIDA Karachi will impart training in Computer-aided design (CAD), Computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), Computer-aided Engineering
(CAE), Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
This centre will underscore the production of innovative designers,rather than mere software operators.

AKU-IED admission in M.Ed. class

The Aga Khan University Institute of Educational Development (AKU-IED) is offering a two-year
M.Ed.programme.
This was stated by an official of the institution here on Monday.
He said that the M.Ed. would have specialization in two areas namely teacher education and the educational leadership and management.
It was also pointed out that the AKU-IED aims to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of schools and other educational institutions in the country through innovation, policy development, reflective practice, professional development and research.
The programme would commence from October 2008 and the admission would be offered on the basis of merit.
The completed application should reach AKU-IED not later than October 31, 2007, it was further pointed out.

Science group classes for new entrants commence

The teaching of the new entrants to the first year classes of the government colleges in the
metropolis began from Monday.
This was stated by the Director General of Colleges, Sindh, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rafiq Siddiqui.
He said that the first year classes of the Pre-Engineering and the Pre-Medical faculties commenced from Monday.
Prof. Siddiqui on Monday visited Sindh Government D.J. Science College, Adamjee Science College and the Lyari College for Boys and Girl.
Addressing the students, he exhorted them to concentrate fully towards the acquisition of knowledge.
Prof. Siddiqui also advised the students to attend their classes regularly and pointed out that 75 percent attendance is a must for appearing in the final examination.
He also asked them to maintain discipline and wear uniform in the college premises.
Prof. Siddiqui also asked the teachers to pay attention towards the impartation of knowledge.
He said that the faculty members should also wear gowns in the colleges.
Meanwhile, the placement list for admission of Commerce Group (Female) and Arts (Male) was announced on Monday.
The list of the Commerce Group (Male) was already notified whereas that of the Arts (Female) will be announced by Wednesday or Thursday.
Prof. Siddiqui further stated that all those who have passed their matric examinations this year would be accommodated in the government colleges in the metropolis in accordance with the
merit.
As many as 84,000 candidates have passed the matric examinations this year and there are 118 government colleges in the city.
It was assured that no youngster would be deprived of the admission for want of seats.
However, Prof. Siddiqui pointed out that those who have cleared their examinations with less percentage of marks would be accommodated in the arts group.

KU extends date for admission to B.Ed., M.Ed.

The University of Karachi has extended the last date for admission to B.Ed. and M.Ed. classes
for the session 2007-2008 in the affiliated colleges up to September 29, says a university’s press release here on Monday.
The students will have to complete the requisite attendance by the end of the session under the University rules, it added.

KU extends date of submission of degree exam forms

The University of Karachi has extended the date for submission of examination forms for
B.A./B.Com./B.Sc. improvement of division (External candidates) up to September 25 without late fee.
This was announced by the Controller of Examinations, University of Karachi, on Saturday.
The rest of the schedule will remain the same, he further pointed out.

Diploma of Associate Engineering result announced

The Sindh Board of Technical Education (SBTE) here on Thursday announced the result of Diploma of Associate Engineer (Evening) Third Year Annual Examination 2007.
According to statistics, 5,158 candidates appeared in the examination and of these 3,501 were declared successful with a pass percentage of 67.74.
The Controller of Examinations, Prof. Syed Sirajul Islam Bukhari announced that scrutiny of answer books/absent cases can be done of payment of prescribed fee on and on application within 40 days of issuance of marks sheets.
