Job fair plays a vital role in career development and aims to provide students with opportunity to select, build and excel in a career.
This was stated by Deputy Director of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST), Ms Azra Maqsoodi. She was performing the inauguration of the first ever SZABIST job fair and launch of BBA Graduate Directory 2008.
The event was organised in collaboration with Nokia by the graduating BBA class.
It was pointed out that in this era of cut-throat competition it is difficult to find the right career path and a right job. With increased focus on finding the right human resource, the trend of job fairs has increased over the past few years.
Ms Azra further said the companies are looking forward to such avenues to find enthusiastic and motivated personnel to drive their organisation par excellence. So it is necessary that such kind of events be continued and taken to new levels to effectively utilise the treasure of this nation.
This was the ideology behind SZABIST Job Fair. It was confirmed that SZABIST will regularly organise the job fairs on annual basis.
This will help provide a platform to the students of SZABIST, to enable a one-on-one interaction with the most renowned companies nationally and internationally, she announced.
A diverse range of companies from multiple industries participated in the Job Fair. Renowned local and multinational companies such as BMA Capital, PSO, First Women Bank, HBL Asset Management, Nokia , SZABIST Executive Development Centre and TV One exhibited at aesthetically designed stalls.
To facilitate companies who were unable to set up a stall at the Job Fair, special drop boxes were provided, through which students could apply for various job openings. Well known companies using this facility included AC Nielsen, KASB Bank, Novartis, PPL, Shell Pakistan, Ufone, FedEx, IFFCO and many others.
A graduating BBA student at SZABIST said it is difficult to find a job: a good job. Mailboxes of HR departments are flooded with resumes. In this era, organising an event, where companies themselves are coming to receive and recruit fresh blood, is a majestic
accomplishment. Students like us are really excited and happy that such an event is organised at our university.
Another student of MBA said an event of such magnitude organised to assist the students in finding their right employers is a palpable step. Such events should be organised frequently.
The event was applauded and highly appreciated by the students attending the Job Fair. The job fair successfully served its purpose as a conduit for assisting students in understanding their career choices, and then selecting the most appropriate organisation to work for.
