Filed under: Pakistan, Technology — Faraz Ahmed @ 2:10 am

Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) is proven to be the fastest networks enabler to roll out Radio and Core R4 in the telecommunications history of Pakistan.

Of particular importance is the strong position that Nokia Siemens Networks has taken on developing its environmental campaign to reduce energy consumption and maximize energy efficiency of its network infrastructure equipment, said NSNs Head of Middle East and Africa Region, Jan Cron.

Ensuring that communications equipment makes use of sustainable energy resources- such as solar energy- and is designed to minimize energy consumption, offer network operators significant costs savings while also dramatically reducing energy consumption across the country, he said while addressing a press conference here Tuesday.
“Our products are designed with an environmental lifecycle in mind. Everything we produce provides greater environmental benefits and minimize any impact otherwise. By doing this, we can ensure power consumption is best provided to those who need it, the people of Pakistan,” he explained.

He said NSN has recorded some of its largest deals right here in the region, with Zain in Saudi Arabia accounting for almost $1 million of mobile network implementation and development.

Veqar Ul Islam, Country Director, Pakistan & Afghanistan NSN said the vision of the company is unwavering; our goal to connect five billion people by 2015 is boosted by our concentration on connecting one billion people from the Middle East and Africa.
Today, about 750 million people have access to broadband communications. By 2015, we hope this will reach four billion, fuelled by the strong growth of data traffic over 3G  Networks, competitive pricing structures and localized content demanded for this traffic.

He said Nokia Siemens Networks has also recently published its Connectivity Scorecard, an index which ranks countries in terms of ICT usage.

The study, which highlights how even the most connected nations have room for improvement, should be seen as a wake up call to nations to take decisive action to reap the full economic and social benefits of communications.
