Filed under: Current Affairs — Faraz Ahmed @ 12:11 am

National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) will install a state of the art video surveillance system in all major cities including Karachi to prevent, detect and monitor street crime as well as check terrorist activities
It was told to Advisor to the Prime Minister on Interior A. Rehman Malik during his visit to NADRA Headquarters.
This system will enable the police and civil armed forces to check illegal activities and provide an improved security environment to the citizens of Pakistan.      The Advisor on Interior directed its Chairman to design and deploy a day/night capable video surveillance system with its control/base in Central Police Office.

It will be monitored by the Police Head Office while data obtained will be maintained by NADRA. The system will have an inbuilt capability of observing important and sensitive areas, reporting a crime in real time and directing police officers to the scene.
Criminals will be identified through Facial Recognition by NADRA’s database. This would provide a deterrent against street crime and terrorist activities.      The Advisor to the Prime Minister on Interior asked NADRA to install video surveillance systems at airports, banks and other public places, and also directed that a Border Monitoring System be installed specially between Pakistan and Afghanistan which will enable the Government to check smuggling andunauthorized movement across the border.
The Advisor to the Prime Minister on Interior further directed NADRA to work with banks to help establish a credit bureau connecting all banks and create a system against financial crimes, credit card frauds by creating a separate database of those who have defaulted on bank loans, utility dues and other payables.

A. Rehman Malik additionally instructed NADRA to prepare a proposal for computerizing land records and all Government functioning i.e. Electronic Document Management system at both the Provincial and Federal levels.
The records from all police stations and courts would also be computerized under this initiative.
The Advisor in his remarks stated that “NADRA has done a remarkable service to the country. It has played a vital role in consolidating ID cards and modernization of passports. I am impressed by the new projects being undertaken by NADRA. The quality of work is good which has enabled them to get work from other countries. My appreciation is for the present Chairman NADRA and his team who are meeting all international standards.”
Chairman NADRA Brig (R) Saleem Ahmed Moeen while briefing the Advisor informed that approximately 62.8 million CNICs have been produced so far and the authority is receiving approximately 20,000 applications for computerized ID cards per day while it has a capacity of producing 70,000 cards per day.
This project, he informed, also includes creation of a database, which already has data of over 93 million people including those below 18 years.        He said 342 NSRCs are working across the country to facilitate the people in getting their new ID cards adding that 189 mobile vans are also operating in rural areas to assist citizens in far flung areas.
He informed the Advisor that NADRA has recently installed e- Toll system on the Motorway for swift passage and electronic deduction of toll.
