Early learning programme launched by IBM

Filed under: Technology — Faraz Ahmed @ 11:48 pm

Kidsmart- an early learning programme was launched by the IBM at a local hotel on Thursday.

Sindh Minister for Education, Pir Mazharul Haq and Provincial Information Minister, Ms. Shazia Marri, were the chief guests at the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Pir Mazhar spoke of the significance of the IT in the present day technological era.

The IBM donated the Kidsmart units to the three non-governmental organizations (NGOs)- Behbud Association, Developments in Literacy and The Citizens Foundation to help address the digital divide in access to information technology.

Expressing his views on the occasion, the IBM Country Manager Pakistan, Humayun Bashir, pointed out that the programme being presented is aimed at supporting very young children in the under-privileged communities that currently do not have access to the IT.

He further informed that IBM developed the Kidsmart in 1999 to extend its partnership in the education sector to the critical pre-school years and demonstrate how IT can be applied to improve educational achievement through the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) and help prepare children for the knowledge society particularly in the disadvantaged communities that have very limited or no access to IT.
